Castellón sign Danish striker Sebastian Grønning
A “number 9” was top of most Albinegre wishlists, and today Christmas came early, with the club announcing the signing of 26-year-old Danish striker Sebastian Grønning from OFI Crete on a free transfer.
Born in Aalborg, the 1.88m striker has played for both teams in Denmark and across the world, featuring initially in the Aalborg BK youth teams before moving to Hobro IK and Skive IK. However his breakout season came in 2020/21 with Viborg FF, when he finished top scorer of the Danish second division with 23 goals. His performances helped the team get promoted back to the Danish Superliga, and he scored 6 in 17 appearances the season after in Denmark’s top flight.
That earned him an almost €1 million move to Suwon Blue Wings in the K-League, although he failed to find the net in his 14 appearances and returned to Denmark with Aarhus, before finding a home in Greece for the backend of last season.
A physically powerful centre forward with great ability in the air, Grønning will no doubt prove to be a crucial part in Castellón’s play, especially from set pieces. Castalia will hopefully prove to be the ideal place to relaunch his career, and rediscover the goalscoring form from his days at Viborg.
His top flight and international experience at only 26 make him an even more attractive proposition, and continues adding international flavour to a Castellón squad that now features players from six different countries and a Dutch manager.
Castellón’s seventh summer signing could make his debut as early as Sunday, when the team take on Cornellá on Sunday in the last preseason friendly.
