Rubén Torrecilla: "The lads get something extra from the fans when the energy drops"

During the post-match press conference, Castellón manager Rubén Torrecilla praised the fans and the atmosphere as well as the performance at the Castàlia during the 3-1 win over Sabadell, highlighting their importance in giving the players something extra when the energy gets low.

Torrecilla also mentioned the specific preparation the team had done in the build-up to the match, and his satisfaction with how the performance turned out.

I’m very happy. We planned this week to counter Sabadell, and I think it worked to perfection. We had to take advantage of the fact that their full backs went up to a lot to attack, which created the counterattacking opportunities that we took advantage of. We also delivered in the key moments, and readjusted after conceding to score the third goal and see out the match.

Torrecilla then commented further on the counterattacking approach taken during the match:

We knew that that’s what we would need to do this game. Sabadell are a solid team who control the ball well, but we knew we could really hurt them on the counter. We also controlled possession well in phases, but the real opportunities for us was getting in behind their defence to create chances.

Finally, he was asked about integrating the new signings:

We’re still finishing preseason. We’ve been working for just over two months together. Raul Sanchez is the latest player to join, and he had an excellent game. It’s a squad with a lot of new players, but for me they are quite cohesive for the little time we’ve had together. We just need to continue working, improving in areas that we need to improve in. But we have a united squad, and one above all that believes in eachother.
