UE Cornellà 0-0 Castellón: Forgettable game, forgettable performance
Castellón fans who missed the game on Sunday, don’t stress. Whatever else you were doing during that 90 minutes, there’s a good chance it was more exciting than watching arguably Castellón’s worst game of the season against Cornellà.
The game could have swung in our favour after Cornellà handled in the box and gifted us a penalty, but Dani Romera’s poor effort from the spot was saved by the keeper. Outside of that potential turning point, Cornellà consistently sat deep, waiting to punish Castellón on the counter. It was almost successful, as Sergi Baldrich hit the post in what was the best chance from open play of the game after a well executed break.
There was a consistent lack of ideas throughout from the Albinegres. They only managed one shot on target the whole game, and it wasn’t a real threat. If there’s one positive, it’s that they can now adjust and hopefully learn to play counter attacking teams more effectively.
Cornellà didn’t do anything original or groundbreaking, and ultimately they are not a top team in the league. A team like ours, with promotion ambitions, needs to develop a blueprint that will enable us to break down teams that play similarly in future games. Otherwise enough points will be dropped to rule us out of claiming top spot at the end of the season.
